The roses are gorgeous and I’ll be showing everyone how to make a summer festival flower crown/ perfect for wearing and dancing on the lawn in the garden in the summer rain. Someone had the loveliest surprise today receiving this bouquet. What a fabulous way to start summer. But I was also thinking what a great prop this Landy would be for my ads for the flowers! Imagine…grass fields, vintage Land Rover, sun blazing, blue skies, buckets of blooms in the boot, me in my dungarees… I’ll keep dreaming. 😂

I’m my own marketing person as well as everything else we all do as a little start up business. Trying to take photos of me with a little bunch of flowers this morning was proving not so easy. So many photos - all unusable. In the end, I tried a little clip. Still didn’t get me in the frame! Well, I’m much better at growing the flowers and arranging them than photographing them! So I’ll stick to that 😂 and keep working on the photography. In the meantime, the best way to see the flowers is to come along to my next Flower Club on Saturday 20th June. Highly recommend this alternative day to soak up the atmosphere of Chelsea week, none of the crowds, celeb spotting, a delicious lunch, flowers, stunning garden, great fun, all in one day. Use tube to Sloane Square then stroll past the shops dressed in flowers for Chelsea in Bloom, past The RHS Chelsea Hospital and Flower Show gates but pause to celeb spot and admire the gate floral display. Then you will cross a road and suddenly find a little, understated opening in a wall - to a secret garden - @chelsea_physic_garden . Lunch all homemade- book tickets online in advance or just turn up. Garden Entrance £15 adults.

This week I had the loveliest of days improving my flower photography with the amazing Andrea Gilpin @wild_meadow. As I always have my phone with me it made sense to improve my iPhone photography. So I took along a bucket of my runnunculus determined to get a decent pic of them. It was a brilliant day. Lessons by Andrea on light, intent and camera settings and then the chance to take photos and try different styles, light, settings and composition all in the gorgeous walled garden @woodhillparkestate.
So which photo of the bucket of my Rununculus do you prefer? The one with dappled light (4) or the one we took by holding a shade screen over (5) ?

Just simply sieve your seed compost so the new fragile roots can find their way.
Water from underneath until the compost is moist ( not soggy) and then sow your seeds.
Ok that’s 2 things before sowing your seeds but who’s counting. 😀 Grab those packets as it’s time to sow half hardy tender seeds like zinnias directly outside or inside. I am busy in my greenhouse sowing successions and today I potted on tiny strawflower seedlings. I’m planting out as fast as I can as the greenhouse is packed with plants. All tied with gardeners twine. A simple spring bouquet marking the time of season and the place.
My own connection to this special place started when lots of us local flower farmers and I held a plant sale in 2024 - we were following the lead of fellow flower farmer Georgie Newbury @commonfarmflowers who invited flower farmers to raise money for their local horticultural charity. So a group of us Bridgnorth flower farmers got together and did just that - selling little pots of our seedlings. We raised just over £200. That was the start. Since then, my son volunteers at the gardens in his uni summer holidays and tickets for my Christmas Wreaths and summer Flower Club workshops also include a donation to @albrightontrust . Such a little charity making a big difference. They are holding their own plant sale on Saturday 9th May from 10am with plants, home made refreshments and a chance to wander the garden and see the beautiful new plaque made on site in the woodwork classroom. See you there!

So what I’ve learnt is that 3 layers on top of dahlias in the ground works. Minimum damage from this year ….so far. That dahlia with multiple shoots is one to watch - it could be gall so I asked the FB group @thenationaldahliasocietyuk who are generous with their dahlia growing advice. My Flower Club is this Saturday so the tour of the cutting garden will show all the work in progress- seeds, seedlings, planting out, potting on and lots of net protection from hungry pheasants! So thrilled this first April meeting sold out ( yay 🤗) so do join me on the next one on Saturday 16th May - DM me to get your name on the list. I’m grateful for the experts @thenationaldahliasocietyuk Facebook group who confirmed that in terms of the number of shoots to expect- one, two or multiple shoots (like on the last dahlia Preference) are all healthy signs. So multiple shoots doesn’t mean it’s gall thank goodness. Pleased my thick layer of mulch, straw and plastic worked. Much easier for me than lifting and storing so many. Anyone else planning on uncovering their dahlias yet?

It’s much easier to create a spiral bouquet by selecting the individual stems this way. Each stem is so easy to pick up and put down too- no tangles in buckets of water.

Yup - it’s been a long winter 😂 You can bet I’ll be stamping EVERYTHING for the next few days….but mostly my Kraft paper wraps and labels so I’ll have a very smart new look to my bouquets this year.
And just to say the sun has come out, we have 10 hours of daylight and temperatures have risen so seed sowing is Go! I’ve started sowing my favourite hardy annuals this week- so get going everyone, hooray. 🙌 🌱

Imagine the colour, scent and cutting flowers in the sunshine. Make it happen this year! Here’s my beginner tips to help you grow as I do, so follow along and do ask me any flowery questions 🌸
Seeds
•☀️Daylight- before you sow any seeds wait until your region returns to 10 hours of daylight. Look up your region here

I will start sowing my hardy annual seeds 16th February. This is why March is such a prime time to sow seeds.
•🌱Buy fresh seed to ensure good germination. Dont sow the whole packet at once. Sow a few seeds of the same pack every 3 weeks so you get a steady succession of flowers over summer. Keep them in a greenhouse or in a plastic box with lid outside. Take the lid off during the day.
•🌸Remember to buy and sow seeds for flowers and foliage - you need both for beautiful vases and bouquets.
•🫧use clean seed trays, fresh seed or multi purpose compost and read seed packets. Some seeds need light to germinate ( so don’t cover them with soil) others prefer the dark so cover with soil.
I’m sowing these hardy annuals from 16th Feb:
Larkspur
Calendula
Corncockle
Orlaya
Antirrinums (snap dragons - lots of these!)

And for foliage:
Salvia viridis
Mint
Ammi Majus and Visnaga

For Easter, add little feathers and wrapped or blown eggs. Do posts your pics and show me yours- I’d love to see them. 🌸Lisa

I use lots of different potted bulbs to make these spring rings - tete a tete, ivy, violas, pansies, snowdrops, primroses, mascari. Have a look what is available in your local garden centre or gently dig some from your garden.
It’s such a gorgeous centrepiece for a spring table either outside on a garden table or inside on a kitchen table. And perfect for Easter table or display - just add little decorative eggs and feathers too.
